Hello Everyone! We are back with another installment of our Homeplace blog. We have had many exciting events happen recently and we have many more coming up! Let’s recap some of the highlights of our spring activities. We hosted our annual Easter Egg Hunt again this year and we had an amazing turnout. We hit over 5,000 eggs and had the egg hunt free for children in the community to come and enjoy. We not only had a huge egg hunt, but we had an ice cream truck, giveaway prizes, and photos with the Easter bunny! This was a wonderful event that we were able to share not only with our residents and their families, but also with the community.
Following our Easter bash, we had an awesome watch party for the Solar Eclipse! This was a once in a lifetime experience for all of the residents and staff and we were blessed to be able to spend it together. We all had so much fun wearing our eclipse glasses, and we enjoyed refreshments and took many photos of the phenomena in the sky! The residents were sitting and ready with their popcorn and glasses to watch as the sky went dark for a few minutes, and we all were grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a special experience.
Following the solar eclipse we hosted another one of our monthly paint parties with the Whims and Wishes studio from Henderson. The residents painted spring themed door hangers including different variations of flower designs. This is an activity that all of our residents love to participate in, including our residents in Memory Care. This activity is one that we never take for granted because of how special the moments are that are made with family and friends during this time. We are pleased to have such special local partners here in the Henderson community who come and share their art and skills with us. This activity is extremely memorable for the residents involved.
We hosted our Dementia seminar last week for the month of April that covered the topic of Social Events: Healthy vs. Harmful, and we had a larger group of individuals who logged in to tune in to the educational discussion. This was a very tough topic for some families because it is not an easy task to make this transition as a caregiver nor a family member.
This upcoming month our seminar topic will be centered around Dementia and Advanced Planning and we will have a wonderful guest speaker, Carol Havens. She has written her own how-to guide on advance planning – in particular individuals with Dementia.
With the tri-fest being hosted last week we wanted the residents to be able to experience the same festivities as all other Hendersonian’s, so we created our own lemon shake up booth! This gave the residents a taste of the tri-fest and we were able to make sugar-free options as well! This week on the docket we had our monthly outing to Rockhouse on the River! The residents had a wonderful time and enjoyed pizza and wings with their friends and family as well as a beautiful view of the downtown riverfront.
We took tons of pictures including one in front of the Henderson welcome sign and the residents absolutely loved it! Overall the spring season has been one that is extremely busy but full of memories that were made not only for the residents but for the entirety of our Homeplace family. We are so blessed to have such wonderful staff, families, and residents of course who make life exciting here at the Homeplace.
