We think it’s a good idea for future residents and family members to know what our assisted living homes will look like. Before describing the details, we want you to focus on one word: home. That’s the word that has always been in our minds as we developed and designed our facility. We want the Homeplace of Henderson to emanate as much of the same feelings as our residents’ old homes as possible. We’ve done everything we can to make this so.
To get your bearings, the first thing to know is that our community, when we open in the spring, will contain three different assisted living areas, which we call ‘homes.’ Each home, all 10,000 square feet, will have twelve individual residences within them.
As a resident approaches her home, she will first pass through a front porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing. All three homes have a front porch, which is different than other assisted living facilities in the area. Those that have a porch have one for the entire facility, which often leads to crowded areas.
As a resident steps through the entrance, the first thing she will see is a big, community kitchen. Residents in each home can cook meals for visiting family, or residents together can cook for each other. We envision this as a space for your elder loved one to cook or bake her favorite dishes, maybe her famous chili on cold days or her pecan pie that everyone always loved at Thanksgiving. A staff member from Homeplace will always be available to assist, if needed.
In this great room, there will also be a big kitchen table, and then several steps from that, a living area that will include a loveseat, recliners, and a large flatscreen television. A small walking path for extra exercise will circle the dining area.
The entrances to individual resident apartments will be located around this community living area, so it will be very easy for your elder loved one to step from her apartment and into a gathering. Inside her apartment she will have a handicapped-accessible bathroom, a bedroom, living area, and kitchen area, complete with laminate hardwood floor, sink, full-size refrigerator, and microwave.
Finally, we plan to use a different color scheme for each home, which means a chosen color and shades of it will be used in varying schemes throughout each home. And, we’ll also be looking to give a name to each home in a manner that somehow reflects and/or honors Henderson, our home and yours.
We hope that this can help you to see what our assisted living homes will look like. We know that each home will be a top-notch community, and—in our opinion—nicer than any other assisted living facility in the area. But we also know that a home is only so nice as the people who live within it, and we’re looking forward to our new residents moving in and blessing these homes with their presence.
