Holiday Season at Homeplace

By now radio stations are playing holiday music, and stores have started holding huge sales events. Nativity scenes are played out on people’s front lawns, and Christmas lights are strung on houses throughout town. Like a child, we feel the excitement and anticipation growing as we get closer to Christmas —and other holidays of the season. Unlike children, though, we now understand that the holiday season is much more than opening presents left under the tree. It’s about celebrating special moments with family. No matter the family situation of each of our residents at Homeplace, we will ensure they have special moments, and we will celebrate the special moments with them. They will have a wonderful holiday season.

For a resident to celebrate special moments, we at Homeplace must work to make sure they occur. The most obvious way to do that, and probably the first thing people think about when they think about holiday gatherings, is food. To that end, we will have a special meal for each holiday—Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s. Beyond that, if able and safe, we encourage residents to go to their families’ homes to eat and celebrate with their families.

Next, we’ll ensure that Homeplace looks like a place ready for a celebration. That means lights—lots and lots of lights! We’re going to transform the Homeplace grounds into a Christmas wonderland—a place where families journey to when they drive around town looking at holiday decorations. Our exterior will be something special. But we won’t stop there. The interior will be amazing, too. Inside, we’ll have wreaths, holiday scenes, lights, poinsettias, and much more. Families can bring trees to decorate with their favorite ornaments and decorations to create a holiday atmosphere in their loved ones private apartment. This will make our residents feel joyful and provide a welcoming environment that they’ll feel proud of when holiday visitors come by their home.

Homeplace will encourage visitors to come and share in the seasonal joy. Outside agencies, such as churches, service organizations, youth groups, choirs and other community groups will come to Homeplace and play Christmas bingo and sing Christmas carols throughout each building via in-person or virtual, whatever is the safest option.

Finally, throughout the season, we will provide activity time when residents will have time to make cards and crafts while listening to Christmas music and munching on favorite holiday snacks.

The holiday season is the time of the year we all look forward to. It is the season which holds some of our happiest memories. Those memories, and the warmth and peace of the season, will continue at Homeplace.
