Hello Everyone!
We are back with another installment of our Homeplace blog. This month we have been busy as always, and have made many memories we are looking forward to sharing! To kick off the month let’s dive into the recap of some of our awesome activities we have had recently here at the Homeplace.
First off, we began the month with another awesome visit from the Whims and Wishes art studio! The residents loved the painting for this month, we painted popsicle door hangers leading into the start of the summer! We brought the Memory Care residents down for the painting this month like we typically do and they loved painting popsicles as well.
After our visit from Whims and Wishes, we were happy to host many musical guests this month during the dinner hour. We have live music every Tuesday night in both areas of our building which the residents thoroughly enjoy.
As the month progressed we hosted another annual activity, our Chemo Buddies! The residents created bags full of goodies for our partners at the hospital for the chemo patients. This activity has proven to be one of the favorite activities that the residents enjoy. After the patients have received the gifts that the residents have made they always send the residents thank you notes to show their appreciation.
Our outing this month was a little different than our usual outings, we took the residents over to Evansville to enjoy an early lunch at Olive Garden! The residents dined on soup and salad and lots of pasta, but the breadsticks were everyone’s favorite. We had the best time spending lunch together and being able to make memories with the residents and their families.
We hosted our monthly dementia seminar this past month and we had a wonderful guest speaker, Carol Havens! She is a retired RN, caretaker, and has helped families over the years prepare for when the end is near. Carol spoke to our families about Dementia and Advance Planning, providing education on advanced directives as well as giving insight on her book “When The Time Comes”.
Carol answered many questions for families who are dealing with loved ones going through this disease process and she was very insightful and informative and provided a wonderful resource for the families and our community.
Last but not least, we hosted our annual Memorial Day celebration this past week to honor and celebrate our Homeplace Heroes as we call them. We have multiple residents here at Homeplace who served to fight for our country and we wanted to commemorate them.
We gave each resident a beautiful portrait of downtown Henderson with the flags stationed at half staff and honored each of them during the ceremony. All in all we have had another successful month here at the Homeplace of Henderson full of memories being made.
We cannot wait to see what we have in store for next month with activities and are looking forward to spending more moments together leading into the summer months!
