We know our residents have valued—and still value—sitting down to a meal with their family. The importance of this hasn’t gone away because they are now living with us. That’s why we put so much thought and care into creating our dining options.
We know how important it is that we eat meals together, start each meal with a prayer, and ensure that our homestyle country cooking is both healthy and delicious.
More specifically, we also know the importance of allowing residents to choose food they want to eat. That’s one big point we want to talk about today. To allow residents that choice, we firsthand out the next week’s menu six to seven days in advance so they can begin to make their choices for the upcoming week. Next, we talk to residents each day and confirm their choices for the next day’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The next day—if they’ve since decided they’re no longer craving their choice—they can choose from an alternative menu that lists options always available. Finally, as they are served their meal, residents may decide that their choice isn’t what they want presently. Again, our staff can offer them another choice—we can always offer residents an alternative.
A second big point is that we want the culinary experience to feel less like a cafeteria and more like a dining room or restaurant. That means we serve them. After residents are seated, a staff member will bring their drinks, and then serves their main course. After they’ve finished eating, they always have the option of dessert, which our staff will also bring to them. After dinner, residents can sit at their table or mosey about to chat. They can stay for a while and get re-fills if their conversations run long.
Meals are served at the traditional times. Breakfast is open 7-9 a.m.; lunch is noon-1 p.m.; and dinner is 5-6 p.m. But if a resident can’t make those times or wants to eat in his room, we will accommodate. No one will ever go without a meal.
We’re inviting all families that have put down an entrance fee for their elder loved one to live with us to come to Homeplace on Thursday, August 26th to sample a piece of our homestyle menu. That evening, we will serve meatloaf, barbecue sliders, homemade macaroni and cheese, tilapia, as well as three desserts: banana pudding, smores bars, and apple blossom. We know you’ll be just as impressed with the dining experience here as we are.
