It’s been said countless times that cleanliness is next to godliness. That’s never been truer than now, in the age of COVID-19. That’s not to say that cleanliness wasn’t a priority in the past—it always has been—but now it’s an even bigger emphasis for us at the Homeplace. It’s so important to us now that we’ve given new thought to plans we’d had in place. Our former plan, which was stringent, is going to be even more strict. Our residents deserve this increased effort.
We’re currently talking with multiple agencies searching for the very best product to combat COVID-19. The product we use will be safe and compliant with all regulations, and it will not only kill COVID, but also combat other viruses.
Homeplace will take a team approach to cleaning. The first part of that is one person will ensure that each resident’s living area gets a deep clean at least once a week. That means dusting, vacuuming, wiping cabinets, cleaning filters, washing a resident’s bedsheets, defrosting the freezer, throwing out spoiled food from the refrigerator, and cleaning the toilet, shower, and bathroom sink. We will ensure that rooms are cleaned thoroughly.
A lighter touch will occur every day. Staff who visit a room may take on light housekeeping, take the trash out, make beds, tidy the apartment, and ensure that residents have clean towels.
Homeplace has three different dining areas—a café near our main entrance, a café in the memory care unit, and the main dining area. We know that all these areas will be high-traffic; residents will gather with other residents and family and friends in these areas to eat, drink, and visit. These dining areas will be sanitized after every meal. Tables will be wiped down, and floors will be mopped.
Our priority is always the health and well-being of our residents. Our re-focused approach to cleanliness at Homeplace is no different. You’ll always walk into a neat and clean community, and the rooms will remain spotless. It will be a new home for our residents, and we want them to be as comfortable, or even more, than their former home.
