Outdoor Events Lawn – Share your Ideas!

Outdoor activities are another crucial piece in our care. We know that staying inside all the time is not healthy for body or mind, so whenever possible, we’ll take our residents outside to participate in different activities. Right now, our plans include fishing at the handicap-accessible lake and multiple activities at the events lawn, which is a wide-open space suitable for any number of things. That’s a wide-range of activities, but we’re looking for more. One of the goals of this post is to call out to our future residents and families with the question of what they’d like us to offer. So, if you will be coming to live with us in the spring, or you have an elder loved one who will, please let us know which activities you’re interested it. We’ll revisit this at the end of the post. But first let’s talk about what we already have planned.

We’re excited about the recreational opportunities the lake will bring. We’re going to stock it with a variety of fish, and we’ll have rods, tackle, and other supplies stored in the nearby maintenance building, where there will also be a handicap-accessible bathroom, just steps from the lake, so that a resident won’t have to stop fishing and walk back to his apartment. We plan to place benches around the lake, too, for those who simply want to sit and enjoy the view.

We’re planning on using the events lawn for numerous activities. It will be a place to partake in outdoor games like badminton, croquet, and corn hole. We hope to incorporate some competition here, too, because we know that competition is healthy—at all ages.

More than that, we want the events lawn to be used in connection with festivals or celebrations occurring in Henderson. One possibility is for our events lawn to be a small extension of some of the festivals that occur in town. When singers and performers come to entertain at the W.C. Handy Blues Fest or the Sandy Lee Watkins Songwriters Festival, we want an entertainer or two to also come to our facility and play for our residents on the events lawn. There, they can gather in lawn chairs with family and other residents and enjoy the show.

Beyond the events lawn, residents can watch golfers play on nearby The Bridges golf course, or they can tee it up themselves.

So, we do have some activities in mind, and our plans provide variety. But we want to please every resident’s ‘activity’ palette. And this brings us to the final piece of today’s blog. What activity do you envision we offer in our event lawn? Please let us know.
