Progress at the Homeplace Site!

Six months ago, the land on which Homeplace of Henderson sits on Green River Road in Henderson was winter farmland. In February, we had our groundbreaking ceremony. For months, our contractors moved dirt so that the land reached the necessary soil requirements to build on. We’ve stayed on target to open in spring 2021, our goal from the beginning, which is no small feat in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It may look to everyday passersby that not a whole lot has happened. In fact, much has. But what has already occurred can be likened to the work of a tree in winter—the things you don’t notice unless you’re looking very closely. Keeping that same metaphor, we’re now seeing the first buds appear.

The new, more visible work includes the construction of our maintenance building. That will be complete in the end of August. The road from the main entrance into the property has been completed, as well as the hollowed out bowl for the lake, which will be unfilled until next spring. We’ll soon be starting on the footers and pads for the 58,000 square foot main building. And we’ve cleared and leveled the area which will be the events lawn, which is an open space for our seniors to take part in outdoor activities.

We’re starting to see this all come to life, this new space where people’s lives will be. And we’re extremely excited about what the future holds. Already, we have spoken to many families who have interest in Homeplace and we feel very blessed to have our community’s support.

In our excitement, we often come to the building site and gaze out at it and dream of what it will soon be. We see the main building and the rooms for our residents, and we see them talking and eating in the dining area. We see the lake filled and residents fishing in it. We see the events lawn and our residents playing corn hole, croquet, and badminton. Finally, we see a family driving up and arriving with their elder loved one. We see sons and daughters walking their mothers and fathers into their new home. We see our staff greeting them, welcoming them in. We see people happy. That’s what we want.

We still have some work to do, but it’s coming together. We want you to contact us if you or an elder family member is thinking about their next steps in life. We want you to be a part of our family.
