Virtual Caregiver Support Group

No matter if you’re caring for your elderly loved one or your full-time job is a home caregiver, it’s hard. We know that. And it’s even more strenuous now during the COVID-19 pandemic with all the extra stressors, including but not limited to wondering who’s going to take over your caregiving if you get sick. Add to that, who really knows when this is all going to end and we get back to some semblance of normal? No doubt the anxiety of the current times can exacerbate our stress.

That’s not an uplifting introduction to a blog post, we know, but it is the truth and we hope to catch the attention of you all who are doing the hard, and sometimes unrewarding, work of taking care of a senior during these times. We respect that hard work, and we want to help.

One way we’re going to help is to host caregiver support group on Zoom.  We plan on holding these every month. Our first will be Nov. 17 from 8-9 a.m. Sign up information is listed at the end of the post.

Out intention is to be a forum for caregivers. We want to help you all make connections and build relationships that will help with your important work and your emotional state. Because many who provide care for seniors don’t have anyone else dependable to relieve them, we want to provide resources that will help alleviate stress and offer helpful suggestions.

We won’t have a strict formal structure because we want everyone to share their stories. But we do plan on getting to many topics during these sessions. Some of these include:

  • Handling caregiver burnout
  • Getting through the holidays
  • Making time for yourself
  • Discussing diagnoses other than dementia, such as Parkinson’s and strokes.

We really want this to be fun and uplifting and a break from the stress of your work. We’ll pepper the session with open-ended questions that will allow each of you to share, start conversations, and ultimately help one another. This will allow us all to be honest about our feelings in a judge-free environment.

We hope you’ll join us because like we said at the beginning, you’ve taken on a hard job, and it’s even more difficult now. See you Nov. 17.
