Details About Resident Rooms

We’ve written about the layout of Homeplace in the past couple months. We’ve included blog posts on dining areas and the downtown façade that will be incorporated within the memory care unit. But we’ve only briefly mentioned what may be the most important piece of the layout for our residents, and that’s the apartment where they will lay their heads each night. We want these apartments to be our residents’ homes and to offer as much comfort as any of the previous places they called home.

Apartments will be either a one-bedroom, a one-bedroom with patio, or a studio. All memory care units will be studios.

These private rooms will be decorated to suit the tastes of each resident, and we as a staff will work with family to get the perfect feel because, again, this personalized approach will allow it to feel like home.

We’ll also add some touches that might not be noticeable on the first look. Our rooms are designed to accommodate all our residents whom may ambulate independently or get around with a device (ex. cane, walker, wheelchair) so our doorways’ width will measure 36-42 inches. This added width allows residents to easily come and go from their apartment.

Another quiet but important feature that will assist in daily life are our custom upper and lower cabinets. This allows plenty of storage space for the resident or family to bring and store non-perishables, other food items, decor and possibly even cleaning supplies—if the resident wants to take on minor cleaning.

Other neat features include sinks with a cut-off that allow for wheelchair accessibility, and a design that includes full-size refrigerators with ice makers in each private apartment.

Flooring is often an overlooked piece of the building process. But we know it is of the utmost importance. Flooring and the transitions that are used when moving from one type to another are so important to reduce falls. We have installed durable carpet, laminate hardwood, and tile in each apartment, paying attention to the type of materials and transitions to alleviate worry of frequent falls.

As we’ve always said, we want our residents to feel at home when they live at Homeplace and these features have been analyzed for just that to happen. We want our residents and their families to feel at home in our home. Come see us!
