Hi everyone!
This has been a very busy month here at The Homeplace of Henderson. Let’s talk about what has been happening this past month as well as what we have upcoming for the month of March!
For starters, we had a wonderful month of February full of activities and outings! We first began opening the month with a visit from Whims and Wishes, a local Henderson art’s studio. Two of their artists came and we created Valentine’s Day themed door hangers for the residents and their families to enjoy! We had residents from both our Personal Care and our Memory Care paint during this activity and it turned out to be one of the best activities we have ever put on. Whims and Wishes will be coming once a month and painting with the residents and families and we could not be happier to work with them moving forward.
We also hosted our Valentine’s Day parties with special Girl Scout guests! The residents enjoyed snacks and crafts with the girls, and shared stories about themselves as well as bonding and taking photos. For our Memory Care we made Valentine’s Day cookies and we hosted a dance for all of the residents in the facility. We danced, ate, listened to oldies, and enjoyed our night full of love!
We also were paid a visit by Nathan’s food truck this month, the residents enjoyed variations of hotdogs and burgers and were stuffed by the end of lunchtime! The fan favorite was definitely the cheddar bacon dog – all of the residents love having local food businesses come to the facility and families always come and join them for lunch as well. Our staff also took the residents to the Evansville Museum to enjoy an informative presentation about the upcoming Solar Eclipse this April. After the presentation, they were able to walk around and see the museum and all of the historical exhibits, enjoying some classic sack lunches! We love engaging the residents in these activities out in our local community and providing them with these special experiences.
Last but not least wrapping up the month of February, we hosted our monthly Dementia Seminar that consisted of the topic of Dementia and Effective Communication. We had a very insightful and informative conversation with family members and caregivers about how to communicate with their loved ones going through this disease, as well as some tips they can implement in their home for those who are struggling with caring for their loved ones through this process.
Looking forward to the month of March, we have many exciting activities and happenings in the books! We have our next Dementia Seminar topic – Dementia and Hearing Loss, as well as an upcoming event announcement that Homeplace is working on with local community members for the Tri-Fest this year. We will be having another Cracker Barrel outing (the resident’s favorite!) as well as our 3rd Annual Homeplace of Henderson Easter Egg Hunt! Our egg hunt is open to all children in the Henderson community ages 0-12. We will be providing photos with the Easter Bunny, refreshments, coloring contest, a Girl Scout cookie booth, and more! Please invite your friends and loved ones to come out and hunt some Easter eggs!
