Hello everyone!

Hello everyone! Welcome to our latest installation of our Homeplace blog. Since our previous post, we have had some great activities as well as new culinary dishes! Let’s begin with some of the fun things we have been engaging in with our residents and families. First off, we have enjoyed some awesome new live music that we have loved! We have enjoyed some new gospel music in our Memory Care from Ben’s Gospel Classics (who has a huge social media presence!) and he live streamed his performance in our Memory Care. We have been making lots of crafts gearing up for our Whims and Wishes Valentine’s Day art class next week! We are inviting residents and their families to come and join us for an awesome art class session creating door hanger’s for their apartments!

We also have thoroughly enjoyed our guests we have had this month. We were paid a visit by the UK extension office for “Healthy Foods” this week and we made banana oatmeal which the residents loved! We also enjoyed a visit from the Audubon State Park who helped us learn and study about snowflakes! The residents really enjoy when members from the community come and share these activities with them. In true UK fan fashion, we hosted a UK Basketball Trivia Night with Sam Moore and boy did we have a ball! Everyone was very surprised at how much we remembered from over the years. We all bleed blue!

We hosted our first ever Virtual Dementia Seminar this past month and we were so happy with the turn out! We discussed Anticipatory Grief and Creating Moments and it was a very informative discussion involving family members of loved ones who are seeking guidance through their dementia process. This is one of our most memorable events that we host at Homeplace and we couldn’t be more grateful to be a resource in the community. We are very excited for our topic next month as well so be sure to sign up! The topic for February is Dementia & Effective Communication, which we are using our resources from the Alzheimer’s Association for support throughout this discussion! Think QR code to sign up for this upcoming month’s seminar is on our homepage on our website. Be sure to check it out!

Overall we have had a great few weeks and have enjoyed our activities and cannot wait for what’s to come! We will check back in and keep everyone updated on what we’ve been up to in our next post!
