Happy Thanksgiving!

As this week draws to a close, let’s take a moment and reflect on some of the wonderful events that took place at The Homeplace! Starting the week off last week our residents were paid a visit by the Mr. D’s food truck. Mr. D’s is a local restaurant in Henderson that serves up hot and fresh fried chicken, which our residents absolutely loved. Mr. D’s was extremely accommodating and made it a point to make our residents food requests just in time for lunch, both of our Personal Care and Memory Care.

We also hosted our first ever Homeplace of Henderson Chili Cook-Off last week also! The staff all made chili for the residents to try and taste and vote on their favorite. There were multiple variations of classic chili recipes, including Steak and Shake chili, White Chicken Chili, Queso Chili, and Original Chili. The residents got to try each chili type and voted on their favorite and ultimately the Queso Chili was the winner! All of the residents got their bellies full and enjoyed being judges for the afternoon. We also had our first ever holiday craft making session with both Personal Care and Memory Care making holiday ornaments. Personal Care crafted mini cocoa cup ornaments, and Memory Care painted snowflakes and gingerbread men! We are starting to get into the holiday spirit around the Homeplace, we also had our building windows painted with Christmas images and they are so festive. To top off the week we had a wonderful baking class, each of the residents making their very own Caramel Apple Cakes with Lauren!

Last but certainly not least, we honored our Veterans proudly on Friday! Our Homeplace Heroes took the stage and walked the red carpet to the South Middle School Veteran’s Day program in Henderson. We had a group of about 7 veterans attend the program who were honored for all of their hard work and service. They enjoyed a special breakfast at Homeplace that morning and then went and listened to the program proudly. We are so happy to be able to honor them and show them the utmost respect and appreciation for all they have done for our country. The Veterans were recognized for each branch that they served in.

All in all as we gear up for Thanksgiving next week, things have been jumping at The Homeplace of Henderson. As always, we enjoy our daily Bingo games and chair exercises, as well as our weekly live music. In Memory Care last week the residents enjoyed evening dancing, and we got an awesome video of them dancing with family and friends! Check it out on our Facebook page at Homeplace of Henderson. Another wonderful week spent at The Homeplace has passed and from our family to yours, we wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
